Destroyed container ship sparks $1.1 billion in insurance and liability crisis

The sinking of the Liberian-signed container ship MSC Elsa 3 near the southern coast of India has triggered a multi-layered crisis involving environmental damage, damage to coastal economies and complex insurance liability. Now, the Kerala government is paying Rs 953.1 crore (about USD 1.1 billion) from the Mediterranean Transportation Company (MSC), one of the largest transporters in the world.
