Public Investigation of Social and Public Relations Housing Conditions by Members of Congress – Mortgage Strategy

Members of Congress investigated the moisture, mold and other harsh conditions of social housing in the private rental sector.
The committee will also look at how the government will ensure the quality of new homes is good, given its goal of building 1.5 million new homes in the parliament.
Members of Congress will focus on four key issues regarding the private rental sector:
- Is the renter’s bill of rights far enough to address the poor housing conditions in the private rental sector?
- How will the introduction of decent housing standards improve the effectiveness of housing conditions in the private rental sector?
- How does the introduction of decent housing standards affect landlords in the private rental sector?
- What impact does applying AWAAB law to the private rental sector have on landlords, and will this affect the housing supply in the private rental sector?
“We are in a housing crisis and the time to move is long overdue,” said Florence Eshalomi, chairman of the Housing Commission.
Eshalomi added: “Whether it is the residents living in well-insulated houses, overcrowded or permanent housing with wet or molds, it is crucial that we see effective actions to address these issues.
“Examining the government’s standards for decent housing, introducing ‘Awaab’s laws’ and the passage of the Renter Reform Act, we want to investigate how far these policies will go to address the impoverished housing conditions in which too many people live in England today.”
The Commission will accept written submissions on this investigation until August 15.
