The insurance company argued that the aircraft, although stuck in Russia, was still operated by Russian Airlines and therefore cannot be considered “lost” under the policy language. The judge rejected this view, citing the Kremlin’s March 2022 export ban, which made the plane legal and nearly impossible to recover.
