Mediobanca launches Banca Generali acquisition bid

Milan-based Mediobanca owns a 13% stake in the General, making it the largest shareholder of the insurance company. The shares have been a feud between Mediobanca and other major investors in Generali, including the late Leonardo del Vecchio family and businessman Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone. Both investors hold stakes in Mediobanca and criticize the bank’s investment in Generali, saying it lacks strategic purpose. They expressed support for Monte Paschi’s approach to Mediobanca.
