Here’s how long most retailers will close on Christmas Eve

The holidays are a busy time for everyone. For those of you who have to work in the days leading up to Christmas, it may be difficult to find time to get all your shopping done before December 25th. Virtual greeting card company CardSnacks revealed that more than half of its customers still send cards on December 24 or 25. However, not everyone is willing to opt for a last-minute e-card or gift card.
Whether you’re a procrastinator or you just can’t find the time to get to the store before next week, you may be asking yourself: ‘When will retailers close on Christmas Eve 2025?’ Here’s what you need to know about Christmas Eve opening hours for some of the most popular retailers.
Walmart
On Christmas Eve, Walmart stores will be at 6 p.m. local time. Opening hours may vary slightly by location, so check your local store’s schedule.
Target
Target stores will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 24, giving shoppers a few hours more time than Walmart.
Costco
Costco warehouses will open early 8:30 am and closed on 5pm Christmas Eve.
CVS
Most CVS stores will follow normal schedules, but stores that are not open 24 hours may have reduced hours. Pharmacies may also close early.
walgreens
Walgreens stores generally maintain regular hours, but pharmacy schedules vary. It’s best to call ahead.
Starbucks
Starbucks stores are expected to be open, but hours will vary by store. Many stores close earlier than usual on Christmas Eve.
Kroger
Kroger hours vary by area, but most stores will be 6 to 7 p.m. December 24th.
Albertsons
Albertsons stores will have reduced hours. Pharmacies are usually closed during the holidays.

- Home Depot: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- IKEA: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Lowe’s: closed at 6pm
- Macy’s: many shops open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Mayer: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- public: closed at 7pmalthough there are some changes.
- Ritual aid: Hours vary; many open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.24-hour stores may be located in 9pm
- Safeway: Hours are reduced; pharmacies are often closed.
- Sam’s Club: closed at 6pm
- sheet: Open 24/7 Nothing changes.
- Bean Sprouts Farmers Market: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Trader Joe’s: closed at 5pm
- Whole Foods: Modify business hours, usual closing times 6 to 7 p.m.
- 7-11 convenience store: Open 24/7although some franchise locations may adjust.
These retailers’ websites will remain available on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but shipping and delivery times will be delayed due to the holiday.
While we don’t recommend waiting until the last minute to make a purchase, sometimes you may find yourself forgetting something on your shopping list. We’ve all been there. Remember, it’s better for your finances (and your sanity) to get your shopping done as early as possible.
