I accidentally spent $167 on groceries this week, more than I planned! Here’s the thing…

I went to Kroger yesterday to place a delivery order. When I went to checkout, they offered me some deals for a limited time sale (which you usually get if you choose to have your order delivered from a Kroger delivery truck).

One of the deals is underway. It is said to be $15.99. This was a lot more than I would normally spend on meat for a meal, but I decided to splurge since I had the money in my budget.

I went to checkout and the total for all my groceries came out to $143. I’m excited because I’m getting a lot of high quality meat and other stuff and still come in under my $150 weekly budget!

But this morning my groceries arrived and my total was no longer around $143 (usually slightly different depending on if they had something in stock or needed to replace something), but $315!

What?

I went to check my groceries and saw that the total price for the roast was not $15.99 but $15.99 per pound and they gave me a 10 1/2 pound roast!

So the BBQ wasn’t $15.99 like I thought, it was $167!

I decided to live chat with a Kroger rep to ask if there was anything I could do because I really didn’t want to pay $167 for a roast.

They asked me multiple questions and asked me to send a screenshot of the original total, which they emailed after I placed my delivery order.

I expected they might give me some kind of refund.

Well, guess what?

After they asked me a series of questions and asked me to submit screenshots, they refunded me the entire amount!

Yes, all $167! I’m also going to keep the barbecue!

This is just a reminder that it never hurts to ask. Be kind. Be polite. Don’t expect or demand. But be sure to be firm and confident and ask if you were overcharged or if there was something wrong with your order.

You never know what might happen—you might get a $167 barbecue completely for free. (I feel weird even eating something so expensive, but I’ll try to make it into as many meals as possible!)

PS I just saw “roasted” on a flash sale ad. I found out after it arrived that this was a rib eye steak bake. I don’t even know what it is (yeah can you tell I usually just buy the cheaper meat?) but apparently it’s really great meat and you can cut it into steaks and make it go Very far. Now I just have to be brave enough to figure out how to cook a roast I’ve never made before! I’ve heard this isn’t the kind that you can just throw in the pan and bake like I usually do with grilled meats!
