Meet Heidi Hallmark: The Bookkeeper Who Helps Women Find Financial Peace of Mind

One of my favorite things to do is highlight women who are taking their gifts and using them to build meaningful, flexible businesses from home. Today, I’m excited to share the story of Heidi Hallmark, founder of Hygge Bookkeeping.

Heidi’s path wasn’t always easy. She was a single mother raising triplets while running her own business. But her story is filled with perseverance, practical wisdom, and encouragement for any mom wondering if she can actually work from home.

Turn your calling into a career

Heidi is a bookkeeper who specializes in supporting women running small businesses. She organizes their financial records, making sure everything is clear and understandable, and helps them align financial decisions with professional and personal goals.

“I love giving women financial peace of mind,” Heidi explains. “When we work together, it’s not just about getting the books in order. It’s about helping them build a career and a life that truly supports their goals.”

She also coaches clients on the Profit First approach, a powerful way to manage cash flow that ensures women are paying themselves first and running their businesses with care.

Why she chooses to work from home

Heidi’s “why” is deeply personal. She is a single mother of triplets and is 18 years old.

“When my kids were little, I wanted to homeschool them while still providing for our family,” she said. “Working from home allows me to do both.”

What started as a way to make ends meet and stay close to the kids has grown into a six-figure business. As her children move into adulthood, Heidi’s next dream is to have her business support her as she travels across the United States

Face her biggest fear

Starting a business comes with challenges, but one of Heidi’s biggest obstacles was networking.

“As an introvert, walking into business events often makes me anxious and sweaty,” she admits. “I don’t think it’s going to get easier, but I’ve learned to accept it as part of the process.”

Her advice? “The best way to overcome fear is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” Over the years, those handshakes and conversations opened doors she never imagined possible. Now, thanks to Zoom and online communities, the web is more accessible than ever.

The secret to her success

When asked what made the biggest difference in her journey, Heidi didn’t point to tools or strategies first. She points to perseverance.

“Never, never, never give up,” she said firmly. “The women who succeed in business are the ones who decide to keep going no matter what.”

Through the ups and downs, Heidi has continued to emerge, a persistence that has allowed her to build a thriving business with low overhead and a steady six-figure income, all as a solopreneur.

Looking back on Heidi’s days

Today, Heidi’s schedule looks very different from the hectic days of her early years.

She usually starts work around 8 a.m. and ends in the early afternoon. Fridays are usually reserved for rest unless there’s a big project that requires her focus, and she likes to take mid-month vacations.

This balance is intentional. Her career serves her life, not the other way around.

Advice for other moms

For moms out there who dream of starting their own business and becoming a female entrepreneur but feel unsure, Heidi’s encouragement comes from the heart:

“Reach out to other moms who have died before you. Don’t doubt yourself. You can do this. When you reach out, you’ll find a community of women who will support you.”

She also offers practical advice for anyone considering hiring a bookkeeper: Choose a bank that offers read-only access so your bookkeeper can securely pull your statements each month. Additionally, while QuickBooks Online is her tool of choice, she cautions against using it for payroll or banking.
