Akal Mortgages renames Canada’s Akal Rebrands as a national expansion

As of today, brokers across Canada will have access to Akal’s turnkey solutions designed to help them grow and expand their brokerage firms.
“Our evolution from Akal mortgage to Akal Canada is not just about scale, it’s about the impact we really want to have on the mortgage industry,” said Mohinder Pal Singh, co-founder and co-CEO.
Co-founder and co-CEO Kuljit Singh added: “It is not only a business milestone; it is an opportunity to set high standards in the industry and make a lasting impact in the communities we serve.”
In addition to territorial expansion, Akal Canada also set its sights on authorized brokers operating in a corporate mindset and becoming what the company calls “broker”.
The couple arrived in Canada by chance in September 1992 – the second year met with classmates who studied quality engineering. Developed his own career in a separate industry, first as a quality coordinator, then a quality engineer, and then a quality manager – the two decided to join the emerging mortgage business together in 2000.

“When we got into this industry, we went to some brokers and asked about the training and support they provided,” Mohinder Pal said. “Unfortunately, people didn’t offer it; they just told us that you brought the deal, we’re going to trade and give you a share of the commission, but we don’t have the time to do the formal training you want.”
Ultimately, this inspired two quality engineers to design their own educational products. After opening a broker, Akal mortgaged (borrowing the word “Akal”, which means “eternal life” or “eternal” in Sikh and Punjabi), and they are committed to building a foundation of excellence.
“When we were formally mortgaged Akal with regulators, we had only one thing: make sure the mortgage broker didn’t have to go through the same things we’ve experienced [to learn the business],” said Mohinder Pal. “They will come, we will train them, they will become producers, they will become team leaders, which will help them open their own agents. ”
The training program begins with a five-day boot camp – dedicated daily to lead generation, collateral products, underwriting and credit analysis, revenue generation, and finally reality practices – and continues to have the latest weekly education in the industry.
“After that, we provided access with lenders through a strategic lending partnership,” Mohinder Pal said, adding that Akal has established partnerships with the M3 Group and the mortgage alliance. “This is one of our most famous core strengths: the power of mentoring gives the agent confidence.”
In 2022, Akal obtained a license to operate in British Columbia, taking the first step outside Ontario.
“Three years ago, Kurgit and I decided to travel in Canada and attend all the mortgage professionals across the country,” Mohinder Pal said. “This brings us to the national stage, and that’s our name, Akal’s recognition, mortgage brokers across the country have reached out to learn more.”
Inbound interest across the country eventually inspired both to examine the reasons for the national strategy more carefully and ultimately inspired the launch of Akar, Canada.
“Akal has always represented integrity and professionalism,” Luc Bernard, chairman and CEO of M3 Mortgage Group, said in a statement. “Their bold move to launch the Akal brand under Akal Canada is a natural development and we are proud to support their vision.”
A nationwide expansion centers around the idea of jointly promoting success
With territory expansion, a new program aims to help brokers improve their mortgage brokerage business and adopt a corporate mindset when building an organization.
“We have helped enthusiastic brokers with no mortgage background become producers, then team leaders, and eventually broker owners,” Mohinder Pal said. “Training, support and access can always be used to help them grow, but now they can build their own teams in Canada and can build a lasting legacy for themselves and their families.”
