Nick Dawkins named 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy winner and Allstate AFCA Good Works team captain
Northbrook, IL, December 13, 2024 – Nick Dawkins, a three-time academic Big Ten Conference honoree and recipient of Penn State’s 2023 Public Service Award, founded the Dawkins Family Foundation to support young students in achieving academic and athletic excellence.
Dawkins founded the Dawkins Family Foundation in 2022 to provide education and enrichment opportunities for young people. The foundation awards three scholarships to high school students, including one in memory of Dawkins’ late father, Daryl Dawkins. The organization holds educational workshops and sponsors charitable events in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley area, where Dawkins attended Parkland High School.
“It’s all about helping people on and off my team. Nothing is going to stop me from chasing this dream,” Dawkins said. “This honor underscores the importance of giving back, and I’m grateful to Danny Wuerffel and the Wuerffel Foundation, Allstate and AFCA for recognizing those who have made a difference.”
Dawkins put his passion into action, hosting summer sports camps at the Center County YMCA and leading Uplifting Athletics at Penn State to raise funds for rare disease research. In addition to his public role, Dawkins was a devoted son and brother, providing unwavering support to his family, especially his sister, who has Down syndrome.
“Nick’s selfless leadership and meaningful impact on others deservedly earned him this award in its 20th anniversary year,” said former NFL quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer Danny Uhl. This year, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy celebrates its 20th anniversary and represents college football’s highest award for community service, recognizing the long-lasting impact of Danny Wuerffel’s inspiring service. The award is presented to one of 11 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for outstanding performance in community service, leadership and performance on and off the field. The milestone highlights two decades of recognition for athletes who have made a meaningful impact on and off the court. Dawkins joins an elite fraternity of 19 trophy winners and hundreds of Good Works Team members since its inception in 1992.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works team selected 22 student-athletes and one head coach for exemplary community service. Selected from a record 178 nominees, this year’s Allstate AFCA Good Works Team represents players and coaches from colleges and universities across the country and recognizes their unwavering commitment to community service and “good work” off the field.
“Nick represents our shared goal of improving communities at Allstate,” said Troy Hawkes, Allstate executive vice president and general manager. “This recognition is a testament to his outstanding achievements and his commitment to giving back to others. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches and journalists who seek excellence in leadership on and off the football field.
Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and Allstate AFCA Good Works Captain finalists and winners are selected by a prestigious national voting committee that includes a fan voting component.

About the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association to recognize college football players and student support staff for their extra efforts off the field. AFCA became the award’s governing body in 1997 and continues to recognize college football players who go the extra mile to serve those in need. Allstate has been committed to presenting the award since the 2008 season.
Since its founding in 1992, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) leads all conferences with 89 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team selections. Athletic Conference (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), 43 times selected. Georgia placed first with 24 Allstate AFCA Good Works teams. The Bulldogs were followed by Kentucky and Minnesota Bethel with 18 honorees. Super Bowl 42, 46 and XLI winning quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning were members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams in 2002 and 1997 respectively.
