Beware of scammers pretending to be SoFi

Fraud and imposter activity are on the rise across the financial industry, and SoFi is not immune. With this in mind, we would like to take a moment to remind you Where SoFi works, how to spot a scam, and where you can report suspicious activity. At SoFi, we take your security very seriously and we are here to assist in keeping you and your funds safe.
SoFi operating locations
Currently, SoFi’s personal loan, home loan, and student loan products, as well as SoFi checking and savings, credit card, and Relay products are only available in the United States. SoFi offers investment platforms in the United States and Hong Kong.
Any claim that SoFi products are available outside of these geographic locations is unlawful. This includes anyone pretending to be “SoFi India,” “SoFi China,” or any other location outside the United States and Hong Kong.
How to spot a scam
Generally speaking, SoFi will never contact you unless you contact us first. To assist you with your account, our customer service team may ask for your email address, full name, and date of birth for verification. However, We will never ask for your password, one-time password (OTP) or social security number. Please be careful when receiving unexpected messages or clicking on unknown links. Before taking any action, verify the sender and ensure the communication is legitimate.
Here are some tips on how to spot a scam:
look and feel
• Check the SoFi logo carefully – the circle should be pointing up and to the right! We’re consistent with the blue color of the SoFi brand.
• On social media, look for the blue verification checkmark and make sure the username is “SoFi.” Anything that contains extra numbers or words (such as “bonus,” “giveaway,” “sweepstakes,” or “agency”) is a fraudulent account.
• Does the interface look familiar? SoFi’s official mobile app can only be found in the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Please refer to these links to see what our official SoFi app looks like and compare.
• We currently only trade in USD and HKD. Any website or app that has an interface for rupees, renminbi, or other currencies and claims to be SoFi is illegal.
Contact details and messages
• Check the URL – the website link can only start with sofi.com or sofi.hk
• Same as contact information – the email address of SoFi’s legal representative will end in @sofi.com or @sofi.org.
• As much as our CEO Anthony Noto loves our members, he will never post a text or private message to you on social media. His only official social media account is @AnthonyNoto on Twitter.
• If you do win a giveaway but forget to enter, SoFi will never privately message you on social media and ask for your account login information.
• While our customer service team can be contacted in a variety of ways (phone, email, live chat, social media) and SoFi Hong Kong also uses WhatsApp, please double check the phone number and email address associated with the message. This information should match our official contact information:
◦ SoFi US Contact Information
◦ SoFi Hong Kong contact details
What does SoFi do about this?
We work closely with our social media partners to quickly remove any accounts pretending to be SoFi. If you come across a suspicious account, we recommend that you block the account and report it on social media platforms.
For companies and mobile apps impersonating SoFi, we will work with our security teams to make every effort to take them down as quickly as possible.
