  • The Allstate Foundation also launched the Survivor Empowerment Network, a national initiative that encourages employers to create workplaces that support survivors.
  • One in four women and one in seven men will experience relationship abuse in their lifetime1.

Northbrook, IL, November 13, 2025 – The Allstate Foundation awards $5 million in funding to the National Domestic Violence Hotline and FreeFrom. These transformative grants will support survivors’ immediate needs: emergency crisis support and cash assistance to keep them safe. Over the past 20 years, the Allstate Foundation has donated more than $100 million to break the cycle and reduce the incidence of relationship abuse, including a $9 million donation this year to organizations in the domestic violence field. Also in 2025, the Survivor Empowerment Network launches to mobilize and engage employers to create survivor-friendly workplaces.

Kate Nack, Vice President, Foundation and Social Impact, Allstate: “Survivors and the organizations that support them deserve to thrive. Hotline and FreeFrom are long-standing partners working on the front lines to provide direct assistance to survivors in crisis. These grants and the Survivor Empowerment Network aim to build a lasting, holistic support movement so that life-saving work can continue and more survivors get the help they need. We have been working to break the cycle of relationship abuse for two decades, and these latest efforts reflect our long-term commitment to this issue.”

Katie Ray-Jones, CEO of the National Domestic Violence Hotline: “We are extremely grateful to the Allstate Foundation for providing $250 to the National Domestic Violence Hotline $10,000 investment to further improve survivor safety and empowerment. This transformative gift represents more than just funding, it is a powerful statement that ending domestic violence requires all of us to work together. This support comes at a critical time when demand for our services continues to grow, and will allow us to answer more calls, train more advocates, and ultimately help save more lives. We are honored by the Allstate Foundation’s continued partnership and shared commitment to creating a world where all relationships are safe and healthy.”

Sonya Passi, Founder and CEO of FreeFrom: “We are deeply moved by this transformative gift from the Allstate Foundation, and it comes at a perfect time. These funds will help survivors of gender-based violence get safe, feed their children, have housing, and rebuild their financial autonomy and future. We are deeply grateful to the Allstate Foundation for its courageous leadership in the movement to end gender-based violence and its genuine and unwavering commitment to survivors.”

Support survivors’ urgent needs

One in four women and one in seven men will experience relationship abuse in their lifetime1and nearly all of them suffer financial abuse. Survivors reported that access to financial resources was the biggest barrier to safety, with the median amount typically available being just $175.502.

  • The funds will allow the hotline to answer more calls and increase capacity, including establishing an Atlanta Advocacy Center hub. These efforts will continue the hotline’s work to provide life-saving support to survivors and their loved ones, with numbers increasing year over year, with more than 500,000 calls answered by 2025.
  • For FreeFrom, funds will go directly to their cash assistance program, helping survivors build financial security and independence.

Employers are invited to create workplaces that support survivors

Survivors lose a total of 8 million paid work days, equivalent to 32,000 full-time jobs, due to domestic violence each year3. Additionally, more than 90% of survivors said the abuse disrupted their ability to hold down a job4. That’s why the Allstate Foundation launched the Survivor Empowerment Network, a national initiative that invites employers to create workplaces that support survivors. This new network complements the Allstate Foundation’s year-round commitment to provide funding to address domestic violence issues.

Nack said, “Every business hires survivors. When survivors thrive, our economy thrives. That’s why the Allstate Foundation is calling on employers to take action.”

Through the Survivor Empowerment Network, employers have access to practical tools to help protect survivors’ dignity, support their financial independence and create a safe workplace:

  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Paid and Protected Leave
  • Payroll advances and flexibility (e.g., split direct deposit)
  • mental health resources
  • Provide domestic violence awareness training to managers and employees
