Veterans Day is a federal holiday honoring the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces. It is celebrated annually on November 11, and in 2025 it will be celebrated on Tuesday. If you typically run errands early in the week, you may be wondering: Is the post office open on Veterans Day? Here’s everything you need to know to plan ahead.

Is the post office open on Veterans Day?

No, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in observance of Veterans Day. As a federal agency, USPS observes all federal holidays, which means:

  • Post office locations will be closed
  • No regular mail or package delivery will occur
  • Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered on Veterans Day

If you need to send an email, please plan to send it before November 11th, otherwise service is expected to be delayed until Wednesday, November 12th, when normal operations resume.

USPS online services remain available

While you won’t be able to visit your local post office on Veterans Day, you can still use your online USPS account to:

  • Schedule package pickup
  • Print shipping labels
  • Order stamps, boxes and supplies

You can also place letters and parcels in collection boxes and they will be picked up when services are restored. Use the USPS website to find a box near you.

If you need stamps, many grocery stores, gas stations, and pharmacies carry them and may be open on Veterans Day.

Will UPS and FedEx be open on Veterans Day?

Yes, both UPS and FedEx will be operating on Veterans Day 2025, with some exceptions:

  • UPS and FedEx stores will be open during regular business hours
  • UPS SurePost® and UPS® Mail Innovations may experience delays
  • FedEx Ground Economy deliveries may also be delayed

If you need to send a package urgently, UPS and FedEx are reliable alternatives to USPS this holiday season.

normal business hours

Most post offices are open Monday to Friday, 8 am or 9 am to 5 pm or 6 pm. Some locations have limited Saturday hours, but schedules vary. USPS is closed on Sunday, but Priority Mail Express is still available for delivery.
