Allstate and Aspen Institute work to improve trust

Washington, October 28, 2025 – Today, Allstate and the Aspen Institute launched the Practicing Trust Awards to strengthen community relationships and build trust across America. Allstate has committed up to $5 million in grants to community organizations to support civic engagement, volunteerism and bridging gaps among generational participants.

Why is trust important to communities?
Trust is essential to the health and strength of a community. Recent Allstate research shows:
- Trust has declined: Only 41% of Americans say they trust each other, consistent with research showing a general decline in trust over the past three decades.
- Trust drives community support: People who trust others are more likely to express a willingness to help friends and neighbors, thereby reinforcing a culture of caring and mutual help.
- Trust starts with community: Initiatives that build trust in communities, schools and community organizations lay the foundation for wider social resilience and solidarity. the good news is 74% of Americans feel optimistic about the future of their community.
- Social trust creates national strength: Higher levels of trust at the local and individual levels are linked to more prosperous economies, healthier democracies, and greater civic engagement and social cohesion.
What is the Practice Trust Award?
The Trust in Practice Award supports nonprofit organizations working together on new initiatives to build trust in local or virtual communities. Grantees will become part of a national network dedicated to promoting trust through the Social Trust Alliance’s programs and storytelling platforms. Winners will also participate in the annual Trust in Practice Summit, celebrating the work of trust builders.
selection criteria
Eligible submissions will be evaluated based on the following aspects.
- Each application should include a lead partner nonprofit organization that will work with at least two other nonprofits to build trust through intergenerational volunteerism with a focus on civic engagement and bridging gaps between local or virtual communities.
- Grant selection will be based on impact on community trust levels, strength and commitment of organizational leadership, ability to execute, and potential to expand learning.
- Selected organizations will receive an award of at least $100,000.
How does an organization apply for the Practice Trust Award?
