The most important factor in pursuing wealth

After five years of studying the habits of millionaires (primarily self-made millionaires), I discovered the number one ingredient to building great wealth—pursuing something you’re passionate about. It also has another name – purpose.

When you pursue your main goal in life, you become passionate. This passion is like fuel. It motivates you to put in the time and work hard. In my study, self-made millionaires worked an average of 11 hours more per week than poor people.

This is not to say that successful people have a higher work ethic. They work harder because they love what they are doing. They have found the main purpose of life, and when you find the main purpose of life, it motivates you to work. You want to work.

But we have the wrong word here – work. What you do for a living stops being work when you enjoy it. An individual does not become successful simply because he or she is a workaholic. They succeed because they no longer “work.”

“But I don’t know what my main purpose in life is,” you say. Well, I have news for you. You do. Everyone has a main purpose. In fact, everyone has the same, same primary purpose. You just don’t know. So, what is the main purpose shared by everyone?

Improve the lives of others by adding value to their lives.

  • When what you do for a living inspires others, you are pursuing your main purpose in life.
  • When you create a value-added product, you are pursuing your primary purpose in life.
  • When you provide value-added services, you are pursuing your primary goals in life.
  • When you work for a living helping people escape poverty, you are pursuing your primary purpose in life.
  • When what you do for a living helps others succeed, you are pursuing your primary purpose in life.
  • When what you do for a living makes people happy, you are pursuing your primary purpose in life.

When you boil it down to its simplest terms, everyone’s main purpose is to add value to the lives of others. When everything you do adds value, you are pursuing your primary goal. When people feel that what you do for them adds value to their lives, they will happily reward you financially. The more value you add, the more money you make. The more lives you add value to, the more money you make.

The formula for getting rich is actually very simple: more value + more people = more money

Your job is to figure out what your superpower is, what your strengths are, and then find a way to use your superpower to add value to as many people’s lives as possible.

When what you do for a living brings real value to the lives of others, money will follow.
