What jobs will be AI-proof? – Millennial Revolution

FIRE blogger MrNomadNumbers recently visited us in Valencia and showed me some AI capabilities that blew me away. Before he retired, he was a software developer like us, so he knows code. In just 3 hours, not only was he able to write a song from scratch, he was also able to generate a video (using zero footage, as everything was generated by AI) and add karaoke-style lyrics to boot. It looks professional and looks like it was developed by a production team of at least 10 people, but in reality, it’s just him, working out of his Airbnb. What is the cost of all this? $25.

I was in awe, but also scared. If AI is so good now and can replace entire production teams and musicians, what jobs will be left?

This makes FIRE even more necessary because the stock market has been on the rise lately, so it pays to be an investor rather than an employee.

In fact, nearly 40% of the companies in the S&P 500 are technology stocks whose profits are driven by artificial intelligence. At the same time, companies are starting to lay off workers, replace them with artificial intelligence, and become more efficient.

While being an investor is great, you still need a job to catch fire, and for those of us who are parents, what job opportunities, if any, are there for our kids?

Now that AI already knows how to code, my original strategy of promoting a career path as a software developer is no longer a sure thing. In fact, Microsoft has said that 30% of their code is now written by AI. Microsoft said it can save more than $500 million in 2024 and increase sales by 9%. After cutting 9,000 jobs, their stock soared.

Considering you still need very advanced and experienced coders to maintain and debug AI, senior developers will still be popular, but entry-level coders are screwed. This is true of most other entry-level white-collar jobs, which doesn’t bode well for the next generation.

This sent me into an anxiety spiral of finding a job in AI.

Here are the top 3 categories I found:

Artificial Intelligence Driven Entrepreneurship

Just like the Industrial Revolution, whenever there is great innovation, there is great opportunity. But you no longer need a lot of money to build factories to take advantage of this new technology gold rush. You can do this from the comfort of your own home (as my FIRE blogger friend recently demonstrated ).

This allows those who understand AI to increase their productivity and use it to start businesses that can scale and be profitable. After spending the first 3 hours setting up his system, MrNomadNumbers was able to create custom songs in less than 5 minutes for less than $5 and sold the songs for $200 each, making him a whopping $185 in less than 5 minutes of work.

Another friend founded a startup called Nilo, which is using generative artificial intelligence to build custom-designed game engines. They just raised $4 million in seed funding, another example of a product that simply couldn’t exist before AI. Check out their demo reel!

For those who are self-motivated, entrepreneurship is the perfect solution for jobs being replaced by artificial intelligence. This is what I will train my son to do in the future. Since traditional schooling and degrees don’t do a good job of teaching people how to be entrepreneurs, world schooling is something we want to seriously explore, as this type of unconventional learning tends to be better at teaching children how to think for themselves and be self-motivated, rather than having schools tell them what to do.

Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Support

Nvidia is investing up to $100 billion to build data centers to meet artificial intelligence needs. Guess who is required to maintain these data centers?

Electricians and plumbers.

These jobs are relatively difficult to replace with artificial intelligence because, from a cost perspective, it doesn’t make sense to build a robot to do them.

Nvidia’s CEO says they will need to hire hundreds of thousands of electricians and plumbers, so this seems like a solid career path and could provide a very good return on investment for your tuition.

Additionally, AI consumes a lot of power—a single AI interaction consumes 10 times as much power as a Google search.

Where do these powers come from? This will create a large number of power generation jobs to generate enough energy to feed the AI robots.

Artificial intelligence engineers are also needed to maintain these robots. Therefore, it pays to get into AI-enabled fields. In fact, Meta recently offered an artificial intelligence engineer $200 million to work for them over several years. If you can get into the AI race, it’s a gold rush.

Skilled trades

HVAC technicians (for cooling and heating systems), building contractors, plumbers, electricians, elevator mechanics, etc. are all proof of AI because it doesn’t make sense from a cost perspective for AI to replace it.

What’s more, a vocational degree can cost hundreds of thousands less than a four-year college degree. These jobs have excellent POT scores (see our Quit Like a Millionaire book), which will significantly shorten your time to FI and prevent you from going into debt to pay for an expensive degree.

Get into FI as soon as possible with skilled trading and you can reap the rewards as an investor.

What do you think? Are you worried about your job being replaced by artificial intelligence? If you are a parent, are you concerned about the lack of employment opportunities for your child after graduation?
