Liberty Mutual Sups Stops $2 million New York Insurance Fraud Program

Liberty Mutual said the program relies on billing to pay for exercise and muscle strength tests including computer range of motion, functional ability tests, and activity limit measurement tests. Insurers assert that these services are usually medically unnecessary, duplicate, or ineligible for reimbursement under New York’s No-Fault Insurance Act. The complaint claims that in many cases, services are provided by independent contractors rather than employees, which under state law makes them ineligible for reimbursement.
