RICS launches home survey update consultation – Mortgage strategy

The Royal Chartered Surveyor Agency has launched a six-week public consultation on the latest status of its major household survey criteria.
The RICS survey was developed to support consistency, improve standards and be confident in the residential survey market. It was launched in 2021 after being selected two years ago.
The surveyor’s agency said more than 325 members provided feedback on the effectiveness of the current standards and recommendations for improvement.
Meanwhile, a survey of more than 1,400 homeowners was conducted to capture public views on home surveys.
“The findings of both investigations informed the draft of the latest standards,” RICS said.
“Separate consultations will also explore interest in the potential development of the family survey program, aiming to further support public trust and professional consistency in the market,” the agency added.
“Although the consultations are conducted simultaneously and focus on household surveys, they are fundamentally separate from each other. The insights shared on regulatory schemes do not affect updated standards and vice versa.”
Two consultations are now open and will be running for six weeks.
The chair of expert group Gary Epps said: “The RICS household survey criteria are a key document based on consumer confidence and professional practice.
“This update reflects our commitment to maintaining best practices, adapting to market developments, and listening to the views of members and consumers.”
