Provincial Social Services Minister Jason Nixon said the joint funding will be used for 25 projects and see more than 2,300 units.

Nixon said the programs range from housing for young and students in downtown Edmonton to units in Calgary because of those facing homelessness.

He said the funding round puts the province on the verge of achieving its goal of creating 82,000 units by 2031.

Federal Minister of Economic Development of Prairie Eleanor Olszewski said the funding is an example of what could happen when the government works together.

In addition to building homes for those in need, funds will create jobs and promote the housing industry in Canada, she said.

“It includes Canadian technology, Canadian employees, Canadian workers and rely on Canadian timber,” Olszewski said at a Friday press conference in Edmonton.

“It’s also about building a stronger Canada, where every partner – the federal, provincial – is moving in the same direction.”
