HCLG Commission proposes spending review to Rayner – Mortgage Strategy

The Housing, Community and Local Government (HCLG) committee will ask about Housing, Community and Local Government Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State Angela Reiner in a July 8 expenditure review.

Commenting on the government’s cash injection of affordable housing, HCLG committee chairman Florence Eshalomi said: “The Prime Minister welcomes the announcement of £39 billion in affordable housing and will play an important role in the government’s goal of achieving the 1.5 million new homes for this goal.”

She insists that decades of failure to build the required social homes means a record 126,000 families face the scourge of homelessness, spending years in what is called “temporary accommodation” while their health, work and education suffer.

“We will urge the government to clarify how much social housing they expect this capital investment to provide and whether they will set goals for social rents in a long-term housing strategy.

“MHCLG has a busy and important agenda; supports support in terms of financial situation, building security, rental and renter reforms, and coping with rough sleep. Making these things right is crucial for people in England and worrying that the levels of spending outlined in the expenditure review may outline these areas in these areas without the need for support.

“We look forward to questioning how the Secretary of State’s spending review will provide its priorities next month.”
