Allstate launches hurricane season response, urging homeowners and renters to prepare

Northbrook, Illinois, June 5, 2025 – As the hurricane season begins, Allstate is stepping up its response efforts and encouraging homeowners and renters to take action. New research shows that nearly two-thirds of American families have no plans for disaster[1]. Allstate has processed more than $3 billion in weather-related claims this year, highlighting the importance of preparation.
“The storms are getting harder and more frequent putting people, houses and communities at greater risk,” said Andrea Bessling, claim field director for Allstate National Disaster Team. “We focus on helping homeowners and renters feel confident and prepared.
Weatherproof skills, prepare for storm
Allstate recommends homeowners and renters take simple, proactive steps immediately to protect their homes and speed up disaster attacks.
- Check your insurance before you need it. Most people don’t realize that flood insurance is separate from homeowners’ coverage. “Know your deductibles, review your policies and consider flood control, even if you are not in high-risk areas,” Besling said.
- Quickly get home in stock. After losing money, video walkthroughs for your house can make a big difference. Besling advises: “It doesn’t need to be perfect. Just walks and movies.”
- Ensure the weaknesses of the house. There are materials that reinforce garage doors, mount windows, safely check the roof and cut off trees. “Loose shingles or branches don’t seem like a big deal, but in the storm they turn into dangerous projectiles.”
- Prevent the foundation from flooding. Make sure the drain is drained from your home, test your sewage pump, and consider preventers. Once the water enters, the damage will reproduce. These small checks can save thousands.
Even if people aren’t ready, the same is true for Allstate. “The experts in caring propositions are prepared to rebound faster with urgency, accuracy and empathy to help people rebound faster,” Besling explained.
