Insurance losses caused by California wildfires exceed $30 billion – Report

Operators such as General Mercury have strong operations in California and have reported significant losses. The fair plan for insurance companies’ high-risk properties also reported huge losses, estimated at $4 billion. Its cash and surplus levels are expected to drop from $1.5 billion at the beginning of the year to $305 million in June, prompting a $1 billion assessment of private insurers.
