I watched all three hours of Scott Bessant’s confirmation hearing. My three biggest gains:

1.He is extremely capable, thoughtful and decent. In many ways, he would probably be a good Treasury Secretary.

2.Whether out of belief or greed, he and his team are blind when it comes to taxing the rich. To them, the highest tax bracket is perfect. . . Otherwise it would be too high. existNoThe level of income – whether it’s over $1 million, $10 million or $1 billion a year – whether they would consider a small rate increase. This is terrible for our economy, our national debt, and our social fabric.

Yesterday, Scott called billionaires “job creators.” His billionaire colleague Nick Hanauer refuted that notion in an article.6 minutes clipI have been connected for 12 years.

3.Scott, his husband John and their children were given a warm welcome. watch these4 minuteswith North Carolina Republican Thom Tillis.

Trump’s “trickle-down economics”—it’s terrible. His judicial appointments – terrible. His 2025 agenda – terrible. The example he sets for our children – it’s horrific. He prefers dictators to democratic leaders of NATO – that’s terrible. haveso muchIt’s just horrible about him and so many people around him (see bonus below).

But there’s some good stuff here and there that shouldn’t be ignored.

Will the incoming Treasury secretary, his husband and children be greeted by Republican senators as a beautiful American family — and on television, no less?

When I was growing up, this was unthinkable.

Democrats have been fighting for 50 years to make this happen, and Republicans have fought us every step of the way. Some still are. But boy, have we come a long way. Hats off to those Republicans who are now largely a non-issue. Love is love. Live and let others live. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
